About me
I'm a Partner at Vectis Strategies, a national strategic communications and public affairs firm, and the founder of Pressberg Media Strategy. My clients range from AI startups to real estate developers, law firms to elected officials, and yes, the occasional sovereign state. (The Principality of Monaco, if you're curious. I'm probably not as glamorous as that sounds, but I'll take it.)
Before I crossed over to the dark side, I spent years as a business journalist covering technology, media and finance. I was the managing editor of the Los Angeles Business Journal and a reporter at The Information, TheWrap and International Business Times. I broke stories, moderated panels, appeared on national television and radio, and was a finalist for LA Press Club awards in investigative journalism and commentary.
But somewhere along the way, I realized I was better at helping companies tell their stories than reporting on them. In interviews, I'd suggest an analogy or a way of framing something, and the company would say "we should use that." Eventually I took the hint. My journalism background means I know what reporters actually want, and my writing skills help me get clients into places like The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Fortune, or craft op-eds for executives and ambassadors that actually get published and read.
I've seen a lot, made tough calls in high-pressure situations, and I'm not afraid to say what needs to be said. I pride myself on discretion and on seeing around corners. I like to think of myself as the person on an email thread between powerful people where someone wonders "who is this guy?" That is, until I weigh in and they get it.
Before all of this, I was a private equity analyst in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. I have a bachelor's degree from Georgetown's School of Foreign Service and a master's from USC Annenberg, where I was named outstanding graduate student in print journalism.
When I'm not working
I've visited nearly 50 countries and I'm not done yet. My favorite trip was an African safari through South Africa and Zimbabwe, but I'm just as happy taking a random train to see where it goes—rides from Paris to Reims, the rack railway through Slovakia's High Tatras, that sort of thing. If I had to pick favorite cities, I'd say Copenhagen and Montreal, though both are far too cold to actually live in.
Home is Boca Raton, Florida, where I live with my wife, Jennifer, and spend my free time reading, exploring Google Maps, lifting weights and experimenting at the grill. I watch too much football and basketball, and yes, I'm one of those annoying Laker fans. I've made peace with it.
